Different Perspectives

Our panel of people in vulnerable circumstances...

Different Perspectives is our in-house consumer panel made up of more than 10,000 people who are currently facing vulnerable circumstances in their day-to-day lives. The panel is highly engaged and gives us, and our clients, a direct route to connect with audiences who are often harder to reach through standard research methods.

At DJS Research, we use a range of approaches to recruit and research with people in vulnerable situations, and Different Perspectives is one of the key options available to our clients.

We understand that vulnerability is complex and multi-layered. Our panel includes people experiencing a broad range of circumstances, including (but not limited to):

  • Economic hardship: For example, poverty, unemployment, unmanageable debt or financial instability.
  • Health issues: Such as chronic illnesses, disabilities or mental health challenges.
  • Social factors: Including social isolation, lack of support networks, discrimination or experiences such as family breakdown or domestic violence.
  • Educational barriers: For example low educational attainment, limited literacy or numeracy, or lack of access to education.
  • Environmental factors: Such as living in unsafe or unhealthy environments, or exposure to pollution or other environmental risks.

Clients will often have their own working definition of 'vulnerable circumstances'; equally, many people within these groups would not necessarily describe themselves as 'vulnerable'. This focus on the individual sits at the heart of Different Perspectives, which aims to provide considered, 360-degree insight from people whose views and experiences are often under-represented.

How can Different Perspectives support your research needs?

Our flexible in-house panels are designed to deliver high-quality, thoughtful responses. Through Different Perspectives, we can:

  • Run quick polls to get a fast read on a topic.
  • Provide online surveys to gather robust, quantitative data.

We can also recruit participants from the panel into a range of other approaches, including:

  • Telephone surveys.
  • Qualitative interviews or focus groups (by phone, online or face-to-face).
  • Journalling or diary tasks capturing longer-term or more detailed experiences.

This allows us to match the method to the topic, the sensitivity of the subject, and the needs of the people taking part.

Conducting research with respect and care – our people-first approach to online panels

Our panels are people-first; comprised of real people and we take the time to ensure they are handled and communicated to, with the care and respect every individual deserves. When it comes to those facing challenging circumstances, we are extremely mindful of any additional requirements they may have and the need to be even more sensitive when it comes to the process of engagement and subject matter.

We consider the impact of our research end-to-end, ensuring that:

  • Design research methodologies are both sensitive and appropriate to the audience.
  • Clear information and support sources are available throughout the research process.
  • Participation is made as straightforward as possible to encourage people to take part, on their own terms.

We know that panellists in Different Perspectives are often motivated by a desire to improve products, services and support for others in a similar situation, and we reflect that in how findings are reported and used. Our outputs are actionable and our Creative Services team can recommend and create tailored formats to ensure your insights are not only understood but remembered by your stakeholders.
