The Residents’ Survey commissioned by Reading Borough Council Residents’ Survey project page is an annual, large-scale study designed to capture local people’s views on the council’s performance, services, priorities and quality of life in Reading. The survey provides a robust evidence base that helps the council understand resident satisfaction, inform service planning and shape budget and policy decisions.
DJS Research was commissioned to design, manage and deliver this residents’ survey on behalf of Reading Borough Council, ensuring that fieldwork, questionnaire development, representative sampling and reporting met high standards of methodological rigour and inclusivity. Using a target of approximately 1,000 residents, the research was conducted through a mixed mode approach incorporating online, telephone and face-to-face interviewing to maximise engagement and achieve representative demographic coverage.
The results from the survey are used to benchmark local views on key services and issues such as satisfaction with the local area, perceptions of local government performance, quality of council services (including parks, waste collection and street cleaning), community priorities and areas for improvement such as road maintenance, crime, housing and transport. These data enable the council to understand resident sentiment at a granular level and compare trends year-on-year as well as against national benchmarks where available.
Findings from the residents’ survey regularly inform strategic planning, community engagement, service improvements and policy development for the borough. The insight generated through this research helps Reading Borough Council to align its services more closely with resident needs and expectations.
