Consumer Focus

Consumer Focus was the statutory organisation campaigning for a fair deal for consumers in England, Wales and Scotland. Consumer Focus was the voice of the consumer and works to secure a fair deal on their behalf. It was created through the merger of three consumer organisations – Energywatch, Postwatch and the National Consumer Council (including the Welsh and Scottish Consumer Councils).

Consumer Focus had identified a need for qualitative evidence of consumer sentiment towards the collective switching concept, and commissioned DJS Research to address this knowledge and evidence gap by testing in detail with consumers the key concepts and assumptions that underpin collective switching.

The research was carried out in October to November 2012. While much of the focus was on collective switching in the energy market, we also looked at mobile, broadband and savings/ISAs.

DJS Research organised and facilitated eight focus groups with consumers. The focus groups covered a mix of demographic groups, and also covered a cross section of consumers more or less inclined to switching suppliers individually.
