YouGov poll shows 60% of Britons left the house on Mothering Sunday – despite government advice to stay indoors: One of the latest YouGov polls has revealed that on Mother's Day (Sunday 22nd March), 60% of Britons left the house after the government's plea to stay indoors.
When asked about the reasons why they left their home, almost two-thirds said they went for a walk or took exercise, while more than half said they went out to do shopping (53%). A quarter said they left to go to work (24%), while a fifth said they went to visit friends or family. Almost one in ten chose to ignore the advice in order to have 'some form of fun' (9%).
Of those who did go out, 44% said they went out for less than two hours, with 16% saying they went out for more than two hours. Two-fifths (40%) followed the government instruction and stayed indoors.
At the time of completing the survey on Sunday evening, more than half the respondents polled (53%) said they were planning to go outside the following day (Monday), however just 43% of Monday's survey respondents had.
Another YouGov survey revealed that after the Prime Minister's address to the nation on Monday 23rd March, 93% are in support of the new measures to only leave home if it is absolutely necessary, with 60% in 'strong support'.
