UK study finds personal devices boost productivity and improve work/life balance: A new survey on behalf of Citrix Online to look into the potential for more flexible working in the UK has measured how customer-focused communication devices are being adopted by workers.
The study found that over 10% of UK SMEs that integrate personal devices such as iPads into their business report productivity gains of more than 30%. It also found that one third of company’s using these types of devices are seeing productivity gains of 10% or more.
While 45% of the SME employees surveyed use such personal devices, over half the firms polled said they aren’t aware of all the devices being used by staff for business purposes.
In total, almost a third of the employers surveyed were most concerned over the security implications of permitting application and document downloads. A further 29% were concerned about employees having remote access to their Intranets.
Andrew Millard, a Senior Director at Citrix Online, commented: "Of even greater concern, a similar number (57%) have no controls in place to monitor or control such a rapid expansion in the use of non-company devices on behalf of the business."
Despite these security concerns, over 20% of company’s claimed they were under increasing pressure to adopt flexible working practices by employees seeking an improved work/life balance.
