Tower bridge named as the most popular place to take social media photos in the UK, survey reveals

Tower Bridge named as the most popular place to take social media photos in the UK: A survey into which British tourist locations feature the most in social media posts has uncovered that Tower Bridge in London featured in over 5.5 million posts on Instagram and Facebook; making the landmark the most Instagram-worthy location in the UK.

The study by Grand Central Rail polled 2,000 British adults and asked for their recommendations for a social media post, as well as what factors were important when deciding a day-trip with family and friends. 
 
London was cited by many as the best location for a post, with the National History Museum (2.6 million posts) and the Shard (2.1 million posts) being second and third most popular respectively. Outside the capital, Stonehenge and Brighton Palace Pier both had 1.2 million posts on Instagram and Facebook.
 
While many people are drawn to historic sites that they see on social media, one in ten of those surveyed said they prefer to go to less well-known places, so as to avoid the crowds and get the best photos possible.
 
There were many other factors cited by participants which might impact their desire to visit a certain landmark including, with one of these being cost. On average, UK adults are prepared to spend almost £32 per person to visit a site; while a 54% would prefer to spend less than £25 per person.
 
When asked about which famous landmarks they have visited and which they would like to visit, just 5% said they had visited Giant’s Causeway in Northern Island, with a quarter stating they would like to visit in the future. 
 
Furthermore, the majority of participants had visited King’s Cross station in London (56%), while 48% said they had been to the National History Museum. The third and fourth most popular location in the UK were York Minster (39%) and Brighton Pier (38%).
