Survey uncovers top winter sun getaway destinations: The latest Cheapflights.co.uk survey of 15,124 Britons has revealed this year's top five preferred sun destinations to escape the gloomy winter weather.
In order of ranking, the most popular winter sun destinations are Bangkok in first place, followed by Sydney, Dubai, Orlando and India.
Additional high ranking places included Las Vegas, Manila and Johannesburg.
The study has also shown that despite the recession, travel is still a high priority for Britons. When the surveyants were asked if they had cut back in other areas of expenditure in order to protect their travel budget, 83% answered yes.
Hugo Burge, CEO of Cheapflights Media, commented: "Our results are a clear-cut demonstration that Brits are a passionate nation of holiday makers. Even, or perhaps especially, when times are tough and wallets are being pinched, the preference is to squirrel away funds for a sunny getaway. We all need things to look forward to, and travel in search of a little sun, family time and R & R is the luxury that has become something of a necessity for us all.”
