Survey uncovers massive gap in children's Christmas knowledge

December 2011

Survey uncovers massive gap in children's Christmas knowledge: According to a recent survey of 1,000 British kids between the ages of five and seven by Woolworths.co.uk, Christmas is largely meaningless to the new generation.

Shockingly, 36% the young children who took part in the study didn’t know that December 25th commemorates the arrival of baby Jesus. Making matters worse, 22% think that Christmas day celebrates the birth of X Factor’s Simon Cowell!

Furthermore, many of the kid’s who were interviewed about their Christmas perceptions claimed the Three Wise Men are Gary Barlow, Mark Wright and Prince Charles.

Many of the kids who did at least know about Jesus thought he was born in Brentford, Essex (the home of Sugar Hut). This ties in with a total of 28% of the young surveyants who think Lapland is a London nightclub.

In addition, the top nine wrong reindeer names given by the young Britons were Tulisa (12%), Beckham (11%), Pippa (11%), Obama (9%), Dappy (9%), Fazer (7%), Tinie (5%), Cheryl (5%) and Ronaldo (3%).

The survey results reveal a worrying gap in the Christmas knowledge of British children – if the trend continues, December 25th might well become a day without significance.
