Survey uncovers lack of UK drink drive awareness

April 2011

Survey uncovers lack of UK drink drive awareness: A website survey by TopCashback.co.uk has revealed an alarming level of uncertainty over the UK laws surrounding drinking and driving.

The survey was filled in by more than 2,300 visitors to the site, who were asked general questions about their driving habits. When it came to the facts regarding drinking and driving, less than 1 in 10 answered correctly.

Some 20% of the respondents stated that they do not drink and drive at all and a figure of 52.5% have taken a zero tolerance policy to drinking and driving and will not consume alcohol before getting behind the wheel.

On behalf of the company, Duncan Robb commented: “We had an excellent response to this survey from what we'd like to think of as a broad cross-section of drivers and it's gratifying that almost three quarters of those responding either didn't drink at all or don't drink if they're driving. It is however worrying that there are still those who are prepared to risk it and have a drink without really knowing what the law is or how much they've actually had.”

The legal limit for drink driving is 80mg of alcohol per litre of blood but 9 out of 10 people did not know how many drinks this equated to in actual consumption.
