February 2013

Survey reveals one third of men rent or borrow items to impress a date: In line with Valentine’s Day, The Hertz Corporation commissioned a survey which revealed that as many as 1 in 3 men (31%) rent or borrow items to impress their dates.

British men feel under pressure to make the grade – 40% of women agreed that the car a person drives can make them more attractive, while almost 60% said that a man wearing a stylish outfit would impress them.

The most commonly rented or borrowed items that men admitted using to entice a potential partner were fancy clothing or accessories and fast cars topping the list, followed by renting a house or apartment, taking on a temporary pet and expensive technology.

Furthermore, the cars that are most desirable to be driven in on Valentine's Day were voted as a Lamborghini in first place, followed by a Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce and Ferrari.

Men are not alone in their efforts to impress however, since 1 in 5 women (19%) admitted to renting or borrowing items to enhance the romance.

Regionally, the locals most likely to hire or borrow items to appear more attractive are to be found in Swansea, Aberystwyth, Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham respectively.
