Survey report confirms Tuscany rated top Italian holiday destination in 2010

March 2011

Survey report confirms Tuscany rated top Italian holiday destination in 2010: A new survey undertaken on behalf of the Association of British Travel Organisers to Italy (ABTOI) found that Tuscany was the most popular choice for Britons interested in Italy holidays last year.

The results were based on well over half of the UK's travel operators in terms of bookings that were made. In total, 55% of ABTOI members had sold the most Italy holidays to Tuscan destinations between July and September 2010 – meaning Tuscany was the top tourist destination compared to all other regions of Italy.

Tuscany has been a solid favourite among British holidaymakers for many years now, and the survey results showed this trend will not be changing anytime in the foreseeable future.

Lisa Leggate, ABTOI member, commented: "From the visitors' standpoint, the region offers a rich combination of culture, historic cities, agreeable climate and friendly locals – it encapsulates everything that is beautiful about Italy,"

The ABTOI survey also revealed that Umbria ranked as the second most popular Italy destination among UK visitors. The third most popular regions were shared by Campania and Sicily.
