Survey finds UK workers struggle to achieve life balance: Serviced office operator Business Environment has carried out a survey of 2,000 UK employees and discovered that 42% say they find it very difficult to switch off from work when they leave the office.
Business Environment’s Managing Director, David Saul, has warned that the UK is in danger of becoming a ‘culture of hyper-connectivity’.
He commented: “Work is now only a smartphone away. Although this enables us to respond to client emails and calls when and where it suits us, we risk being unable to tear ourselves away from the workplace.”
Some 46% of those polled think nothing of using their work email and business phones to organise their private lives, while 24% did not support the rise in mobile technology because they felt it results in isolating them from work colleagues.
One in five of the respondents said they now work remotely from home once a week thanks to mobile technology, while 27% work from their bedroom or lounge rather than in a dedicated home office.
Mr Saul added: “While it is great that the UK plc is supporting the royal wedding, the harsh reality for many is that they still have just as much work to do in the week – just less of a working week to complete it in.”
