Survey finds three quarters of construction firms having trouble finding qualified workers: According to research, published by the Associated General Contractors of America, three-quarters (74%) of construction firms across the US report they are having trouble finding qualified craft workers to fill key spots amid concerns that the labour shortages will only get worse. Furthermore, half (53%) stated that they are having a hard time filling professional positions – especially project supervisors, estimators and engineers.
The survey continued to show, that among respondents, four fifths (86%) said they expect it will remain difficult or get harder to find qualified craft workers, while seven in ten (72%) said the market for professional positions will remain hard or get worse. In addition, half (49%) believed that there weren’t enough construction professionals available.
Stephen E. Sandherr, Chief Executive Officer of the Associated General Contractors of America, said:
“Many construction firms are already having a hard time finding qualified workers and expect construction labour shortages will only get worse... We need to take short- and long-term steps to make sure there are enough workers to meet future demand and avoid the costly construction delays that would come with labour shortages.”
