Survey finds rise in holidays out of school term to beat price hikes: According to a poll by comparison site Carrentals.co.uk, 1 in 3 Britons agree with taking children on during term time if parents can't afford the price hikes during school holiday periods.
Carrentals.co.uk asked their customers across the UK when, and if, it is acceptable to take a child out of school for a holiday.
In total, 21% of those polled said it was fine to attend a family occasion such as a wedding during school term. A further 9% said it was acceptable to take their kids on a break outside of school holidays if the trip has educational benefits, and 6% thought it acceptable for parents to simply refuse to pay school holiday premium prices.
Only 17% of the respondents said they would not take a child on holiday during term time.
Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, Gareth Robinson, commented: "As all parents know, the cost of travel in the school holidays goes up significantly and for some, particularly in the current financial climate, this means no family holiday. The results of the poll show just how much sympathy there is for parents who are genuinely unable to afford to travel during this peak period."
He added: "What needs to be looked at is greater staggering of school holiday dates to help keep the costs of travel down and enable more families to enjoy a holiday together."
