Survey – Australians plan to increase travel spend: According to TripAdvisor’s TripBarometer survey, the annual global average spend on travel is $5498 but in 2014 Australian travellers plan to spend an average of $13,831.
The accommodation and traveller survey showed a rise in plans made by Australian travellers for both domestic and international travel – nine-in-ten (90%) planned to travel domestically, up from eighty-five per cent in 2013 and ninety-one per cent were planning to travel overseas, a rise from three quarters (74%) in 2013.
Globally, nine-in-ten (90%) travellers are planning domestic trips and three quarters (77%) plan to travel internationally.
However, despite the planned increase in both domestic and international travel, the proportion of global businesses planning to open new properties has declined from seventeen per cent to fourteen per cent in 2013.
The survey, which was conducted by Ipsos, received a total of 61,007 respondents in thirty-two markets spanning seven regions.
