Reliability survey crowns Mazda MX-5 as top performer: The latest annual reliability survey by What Car? Magazine has seen Mazda’s MX-5 sports car win the crown over more than 50,000 other vehicle contenders.
Manufactured since 2005, Mazda MX-5s have been recorded as having a mere 4% failure rate. This figure is even more impressive when considering the fact that the next nearest open-top model has a 15% failure rate.
In terms of other critical factors, such as cost of repair, the average time the vehicle spends off the road for repairs, its age and its mileage, the MX-5 scored an overall Reliability Index of 8. The lower the score, the better the car – this compares with a national average of 100.
Aftersales Director at Mazda UK, David Wilson-Green, explained why it was no surprise that the MX-5 scored so highly in this year’s What Car? reliability survey: "The Mazda MX-5 has won many awards over the years and regularly achieves excellent reviews in the national media for the pure driving enjoyment it provides and its distinctive good looks."
