Poll uncovers most popular baby names in England and Wales: The latest poll published by the Office for National Statistics has revealed the current most popular baby names in England and Wales.

Oliver and Olivia have ranked highest on the list for the second year in a row. However there also proved to be regional differences in preference.

In total, the top ten names for boys are Oliver, Jack, Harry, Alfie, Charlie, Thomas, William, Joshua, George and James.

The girls’ top ten were listed as Olivia, Sophie, Emily, Lily, Amelia, Jessica, Ruby, Chloe, Grace and Evie.

When it comes to regional differences in name popularity, Jack was rated above Oliver in the north-east for boys, while for girls, Lily ranked top in the south-west and Sophie was most popular in the east of England.

In addition, the name Zachary saw the highest increase for boys between 2009 and 2010, rising 16 places to 51. In contrast, the name Aidan saw the biggest dive in popularity by slipping 13 places to 91.

For female babies, the name Lacey saw the biggest increase within the top 100 list by rising 31 places between 2009 and 2010 to 36, followed by Florence, which climbed 26 places to number 54.
