Poll finds over 60s living life to the full

July 2011

Poll finds over 60s living life to the full: A poll of more than 2,000 over 60’s by charity Age UK has revealed that being older is by no means the end of having fun - 70% reported taking up a new hobby or sport in the past year.

The study was undertaken to mark the launch of a new TV advertising campaign by Age UK to promote the celebration of the golden years by showing that growing older does not have to be an obstruction to living a full and active life.

One in five of the surveyants said they felt more comfortable in their own skin since they reached 60, and claimed this confidence helps provide the motivation to return to previous passions or try activities they have always wanted to do.

More than half of those polled believed that their later years afford them more freedom than ever before, with a total of one in five saying that taking up a hobby has made them feel young again.

The survey also discovered that learning a new sport, foreign language or even opting for a one-off adrenaline boost, such as paragliding or sky diving, are just some of the interesting activities being taken up by older people.
