Poll finds Britons prefer heading to foreign destinations for holidays: A poll of 1,000 people by Gala Bingo has revealed that when it comes to taking a holiday, Britons prefer foreign destinations.
The study discovered that more people in the UK at 45% have been to see the Eiffel Tower in Paris than to Buckingham Palace in central London (36%).
The overwhelming majority of those surveyed (84%) said they would prefer to take their holidays in a country other than locally in England.
When asked about top holiday destinations, the number one spot for a foreign trip was Marbella, followed by Rome, Las Vegas and New York.
The reasons people gave for their preference of travelling abroad included the dismal British weather, a lack of new attractions and the country’s transport system.
Regarding local attractions, the most visited city in the UK was found to be Manchester, followed by Edinburgh and Bath.
Londoners were found to be the least likely of all other Britons to visit their local attractions – an astounding 58% claimed that they had never seen Buckingham Palace, even though it is located in the middle of the city.
