Poll discovers Android and iPhone most popular amongst younger generation: Research carried out by Yougov has revealed that Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android are most popular amongst the 18 and 34 age groups, representing a third of the UK smartphone market share each.
The poll, carried out amongst 2001 adults in the UK, interestingly showed that while iPhone and Android is most popular in the younger demographic, conversely more than half of those surveyed between 18 and 24 earn less than £10,000.
The Yougov survey results also showed that iPhone users are more likely to be in a state of permanent overdraft. It also demonstrated that Apple’s OS platform is the most popular in London.
As to the gender divide, women are revealed as being more disposed towards the iPhone and men preferring Android. The Symbian system is markedly more prevalent amongst male consumers, who make up three times the market share compared to women.
Amongst older smartphone users (those aged 55 and up) who were surveyed, a quarter did not know what operating system their smartphone operates on, and more than a fifth choose the Blackberry RIM platform over the Android or iPhone.
