Northern Ireland disposable income rises, but by less than half UK average: A monthly ‘income tracker’ for the Asda supermarket chain which examines spending habits and discretionary incomes across the UK, has found that discretionary incomes in Northern Ireland increased by £4 per week last month to £80.
However, in comparison, it found that during March, the average UK household had £170 a week available to spend after all tax and essential living costs have been deducted.
Findings from a separate study suggest that UK households are likely to see their living standards improving, as earning growth accelerates and headline inflation remains below two percent for the remainder of 2014. Declining unemployment is also likely to support household finances. Overall, the Centre for Economics and Business Research expects real household disposable incomes to grow by 1.5 per cent this year after declining by 0.6 per cent in 2013.
