Nearly a fifth of UK adults have meat with every meal, reveals poll

January 2021

Nearly a fifth of UK adults have meat with every meal: A survey of UK adults has found that almost a fifth (17%) cannot remember the last meal they had, that did not include meat.

The survey of 3,000 nationally representative respondents was conducted by meat substitute brand, Quorn.

In addition to the 17% who have meat with every meal, more than half (54%) revealed they have it with 'almost every meal'. Three in five (60%), however, said they wish they had less meat in their diet.

When asked about the reasons why they would like to eat less meat, 51% said it was better for their health, while 37% want to make a positive step towards helping the planet.

The survey also asked people what they would miss about eating meat should they abstain from it, with 17% saying the taste and juiciness of meat. A third of the respondents said giving meat up would be a huge challenge as they love the taste so much it would be hard to resist.
