Nationwide poll names Lincolnshire UK's favourite food spot

September 2011

Nationwide poll names Lincolnshire UK's favourite food spot: To celebrate British Food Fortnight, which runs from 17th September to 2nd October, a poll of over 22,000 people has uncovered the winner of the year for the UK's favourite food spot.

Locals are delighted to find that Lincolnshire has won the accolade, beating out stiff competition from the likes of Cornwall and Hampshire.

Meryl Ward, owner of Uncle Henry's Farm Shop in Grayingham Grange Farm near Kirton, commented: "I don’t think there is any other county that can match us in terms of what we can offer. It’s the combination of strong farming presence and a diverse range of good quality small suppliers meant Lincolnshire always stood a good chance, but to actually win is fantastic.”

Tourism Development Manager for Tastes of Lincolnshire, Mary Powell, concluded: “We have always believed Lincolnshire is the top food spot in the UK and now’s our chance to get this recognised nationally. We have the freshest and tastiest local food – premium sausages, delectable pork pies, Lincoln Red beef and the famous Lincolnshire plum bread, best enjoyed with Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese. Add to that famous dishes such as stuffed Chine and Haslet and fields full of the finest vegetables – what more could a food lover ask for?”

She added: “This competition has been a brilliant profile raiser for local food. As a very rural, often forgotten part of Britain, it is great to be recognised as one of the great food producing areas!”
