More people opposed to second referendum on Brexit than in support: A survey for the Daily Express has revealed 40% of respondents polled would be in favour of a second referendum on Brexit, however half (50%) said they would not support one.
The survey of 2035 UK adults by ComRes also found that Theresa May's deal is supported by just 26% of those polled about their views on Brexit. In contrast, 42% are in opposition – which was also the least favoured option for how the nation should move forward with the Brexit situation.
When it comes to a clean break from the EU – or a 'no deal', 34% were in support, with 34% also saying they would like to have the option to extend Brexit beyond the 29th March.
When it came to Theresa May's deal, 45% said they would be in favour of asking the EU for the opportunity to renegotiate if it gets voted down by parliament, while not leaving the EU at all was selected as preferable by 44% of respondents.
Pre-referendum campaigns
Looking back to the Leave and Remain campaigns leading up to the Referendum, 46% of respondents said they felt misled by both sides, with 33% saying they did not. Just over three in ten (31%) said it was the Leave campaign and not Remain that misled voters, with 16% saying the reverse: Remain misled the public and Leave did not. The number of voters who said neither side were misleading was just 12%.
The next election
The survey also polled respondents about their opinions around the next election, with over half (51%) believing the Conservative government will lose out, regardless of who is leading the party. If Theresa May is still leader, six in ten think they Conservatives will lose power, with 36% of Tory voters also believing this will be the outcome. Only 26% of Conservative voters believe they will face defeat if the party is led by someone other than the current Prime Minister.
