Market research uncovers UK's top electricity provider

January 2012

Market research uncovers UK's top electricity provider: A new Which? survey measuring consumer satisfaction with their electricity supplier has found Good Energy taking the crown for the second time.

In total, Good Energy received a customer satisfaction rating of 84%, compared to npower with just 46%.

The company is Britain’s only 100% renewable electricity supplier. Good Energy also impressed customers by maintaining an electricity price freeze throughout 2011, when all major energy suppliers were raising their energy bills.

In addition, Good Energy’s electricity currently costs 3% less than the standard domestic electricity tariff from the ‘Big 6’ suppliers on average.

The survey results further demonstrated that smaller electricity providers are consistently outranking major suppliers. Warehouse was rated at a close second, followed by Ecotricity, Ovo Energy and Ebico

Which? research also revealed that the Big 6 received four million complaints last year alone, with tens of thousands of these issues remaining unresolved after eight weeks.

Richard Lloyd, Which? Executive Director, commented on the market research results: “These findings reveal shockingly high levels of complaints and low levels of customer satisfaction in the energy industry, at a time when domestic bills have gone through the roof. Ofgem, the regulator, should publish the truth about the full level of complaints in this essential service. Energy suppliers should be held publicly accountable, on a regular basis, for putting right the problems their customers are reporting.”
