Market research shows that fuel prices alter driver habits in Northern Ireland

October 2012

Market research shows that fuel prices alter driver habits in Northern Ireland: A survey by the Consumer Council, which focussed on Northern Ireland, has revealed that rising fuel prices have led to more than four in five (82%) motorists changing their driving habits. The market research study also found that an increasing number of drivers in Northern Ireland were shopping around for their fuel.

A spokesman for Consumer Council for Northern Ireland, Antoinette McKeown, said that respondents indicated they were potentially spending as much as 14% of their weekly wage on fuel, and in rural areas a quarter of those who answered the survey were spending £70 per week – which represents almost a fifth (19%) of the average weekly wage in Northern Ireland.

The poll comes following an announcement by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) that it will be conducting a UK wide review of the fuel industry.
