Leisure survey uncovers trend of Britons working while on holiday

Leisure survey uncovers trend of Britons working while on holiday: A survey by travel company Just The Flight has discovered that UK holidaymakers are increasingly taking their work away with them, particularly because of the rise of smartphones and other mobile devices.

These days, although Britons escape the UK weather, the 1,000 respondents who took part in the survey reveal that 70% check their work emails during annual leave. Over a quarter check their emails multiple times a day, and out of these, 53% respond to them while only 16% forward emails onto a colleague.

A total of 49% access work emails from their smartphones and 22% even bring a laptop to work while on holiday. Over half the respondents at 65% claimed to have attempted a ‘digital detox’ to avoid work-related notifications, however as many as one in three failed to resist the temptation to check up on emails.

In terms of uncovering the reasons for this trend, one-third of respondents said they felt the need to work during their holiday to lessen the workload on return – 38% claim they need at least two to three days to catch up on emails when they get back into the office and 60% reported having over 250 emails to tackle after a two-week holiday.
