European opinion poll finds Britons most unhappy with internet service: A new opinion poll on behalf of the European Commission has revealed that Britons are the most unsatisfied consumers in Europe when it comes to their internet connection speeds.
In total, 37% of the UK respondents who took part in the study were unhappy with their download and upload speeds, which they also said did not match the conditions promised in their contract. This compares to the average European dissatisfaction levels of 23%.
The Commission has warned that if the UK national government doesn't take action to rectify the situation, Europe may have to intervene.
The European Commission Vice President for the Digital Agenda, Neelie Kroes, commented: "Consumers are telling us loud and clear that they are worried they are not getting the internet speeds and quality of service they have been promised. National authorities must take appropriate measures to ensure that operators respect new EU rules requiring to them to be transparent on connection speeds and service quality. If this should not be sufficient, I would not hesitate to take further action in the form of more prescriptive guidance, or even legislation if it is needed."
