Europe wide survey reveals London as most exciting and most overpriced city

July 2011

The TripAdvisor 2011 European Cities Survey has seen London voted as the most exciting and easy-to-get-around metropolis for the second year running. It was also rated as Europe’s most overpriced capitol however.

The study, which polled 3,500 travellers, also found London to have cleaned up since it was voted Europe's dirtiest city in 2009 – it has now disappeared from the shortlist in this category for the second year running.

TripAdvisor spokesperson, Emma O'Boyle, commented: "This research is based on traveller perception, so it's encouraging for everyone involved in London's tourism industry that, despite the concerns around cost, the city is regarded by European travellers as a vibrant and accessible destination. Undoubtedly the buzz around next year's Olympics has contributed to London being crowned Europe's most exciting city, and we fully expect this momentum to continue into 2012 and beyond."

Regarding other hubs in the UK, Edinburgh came third as the most underrated city, while Birmingham got the unfortunate title of Europe's most boring city for the second consecutive year. It was followed in this category by Manchester, which was also voted as the third least romantic city.
