Engineers take charge of up-skilling for career development: Kelly Services recently released the 2013 “Kelly Global Workforce Index” (KGWI). The annual survey, which reveals opinions about work and the workplace, uncovers a new wave of empowered employees who understand the importance of investing in skills.
Findings show, of those who use training, two thirds (66%) looked at obtaining a promotion from their current employer, two fifths at another company (40%) or to enter a new field of work (39%), whilst around a fifth (18%) used the training to become an entrepreneur/business owner.
Of engineering professionals surveyed, just fewer than half feel the need to acquire more skills in Learn Six Sigma (49%), and technical skill development (47%), whilst 3-D solid modelling and automation were just above two fifths at (44%) and (42%), respectively.
Professionals regularly confront the challenge of how to best manage their skills development. Engineering is at the forefront of this trend because of the constant need to upgrade skills to keep up with the rapid pace of technological advancement in the design and manufacturing of products.
