Courses to boost digital skills the most desirable training for SME leaders in 2020: Business leaders planning training in 2020 say digital skills courses are their main priority, according to a survey by Hitachi Capital Business Finance.

The poll of more than 1,200 business leaders revealed  that 81% are planning on growth in 2020 with 69% planning to sign up to courses. 

SME leaders in the legal sector are the most enthusiastic about training with 85% saying they would like to learn additional skills, followed by bosses in manufacturing (82%) and transport (73%). 

Amongst the SME leaders looking to boost their digital skills almost 4 in 10 (38%) said they would like to improve their knowledge around software, the Internet and social media. 

Of all the sectors polled, leaders in the retail industry were the most open to brushing up on their digital skills, with more than half the respondents (51%) saying they would like to attend such a course. 

Courses that offered training in Marketing and PR were also cited by around a quarter of business leaders (28%). 

Managing director at Hitachi Capital Business Finance, Gavin Wraith-Carter, commented: “Standing still in a business world as competitive as today for most leaders is simply not an option. Businesses will all have specific challenges to address as the market shifts and technology evolves. The best way of staying a step ahead of competitors is to invest in skills across the business.
