Brits find holidaying abroad less expensive than UK breaks, survey finds: A survey by online travel company, On The Beach, has found that 41 per cent of British holidaymakers choose to holiday abroad, as they believe UK holidays are more expensive.
The survey of 1,000 individuals also discovered that just 20 per cent believe that it costs less to go on holiday in the UK, rather than abroad.
Of the participants, 37 per cent believe that the total cost of travelling domestically is similar to holidaying in a foreign destination.
The research found that a single night’s stay for two people, at The Grand Hotel in Brighton, would cost £319 during August, on a bed and breakfast basis. However, a 7 night stay at the four start Mavi Hotel in Bodrum, Turkey, would cost £459, which breaks down to a £65 per night.
Chief Marketing Officer at On The Beach, Alistair Daly said of the findings:
"With so many low cost airlines offering great value flights and the low hotel rates offered to British holidaymakers by non-UK hoteliers, a holiday on foreign shores can often be much cheaper than a holiday in the UK. For the UK to compete, there would need to be a complete overhaul in pricing, as in many cases a one night stay in a hotel in a popular UK resort can be more expensive than seven nights abroad."
