A quarter of 18–24 year-olds plan to spend more on travel products and services over the next year: A study into the travel plans of people in the UK has uncovered that 26% of Gen Z respondents intend to spend more on travel services and products in the next 12 months; while just 15% of those aged 55 and over plan to do the same.
In addition, 21% of people of all ages, globally, plan to spend more on their holidays and travelling over the next year.
The poll by YouGov was commissioned in April of this year and compared data between age groups and nationalities. The survey found that Gen Z respondents in Britain (44%) are most likely to spend more on travelling over the next 12 months, than any other nation.
In comparison, just over a quarter (26%) of Gen Z respondents globally said they intend to spend more travelling this year.
When asked about where they intend to take their next holiday, 45% of Gen Z participants globally said they are planning a trip domestically; with four in ten Gen Z Brits stating the same. Almost six in ten Indonesian respondents (57%) said they were planning a holiday within Indonesia, making it the most popular domestic holiday among Gen Z.
On the other hand, a third of Gen Z Brits plan to travel abroad in the next year, with four in ten saying they typically stay in an accommodation with three stars or less.
The survey also looked at obstacles that may stop people from travelling, with 37% of Gen Z Brits citing the cost of travel as a big drawback. Furthermore, the cost of accommodation was stated by a quarter of Gen Z respondents as a main obstacle when booking a holiday.
