60% of Brits are fearful of autonomous AI, reveals poll: A survey of people in the UK has revealed that there are still issues of trust when it comes to artificial intelligence, with 60% of respondents reporting reservations about the fact that AI systems can operate without the need for human interaction. This percentage is even higher when it comes to the over 55s, at 70%.
The research by Fountech.ai polled 2,000 UK adults and found that 44% of respondents do not understand how AI works, while 57% believe that AI algorithms can not compare when it comes to decision making to the emotional intelligence or intuition of human interaction.
Almost seven in ten (69%) believe that a human should always be around autonomous AI algorithms to monitor the decisions made by the machines, which again was even higher in the over 55 age bracket.
Nikolas Kairinos, the founder of Fountech.ai said of the research:
"There is still a significant knowledge gap when it comes to people’s general awareness and understanding of artificial intelligence. As a result, many people are naturally apprehensive about giving up certain decision-making powers to machines”.
