UK figures, released as part of the ‘Business of Evidence Report’ in October 2012, suggest that market research is a bigger industry than the UK music sector and is similar (in terms of contribution to GDP) to the newspaper industry. This is actually around 50% larger than had previously been estimated – and takes in to account the fact that market research in the UK is no longer the preserve of those describing themselves as market research agencies or consultancies, but also takes in to account a wide array of other businesses carrying out research.
