In-depth interview (depth interview)

A depth interview, also known as an in-depth interview, is a qualitative research technique where a researcher engages with a single respondent one-on-one. Unlike focus groups, which involve multiple participants, depth interviews allow for detailed exploration of a respondent’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

This technique is particularly useful for uncovering rich insights into a respondent’s awareness, knowledge, attitudes, motivations, and opinions regarding a product, service, or topic. Interviews are typically guided by a structured or semi-structured topic guide, helping ensure the conversation remains focused while still allowing flexibility to probe deeper where relevant. Depth interviews generally last between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the objectives and context of the research.

At DJS Research, depth interviews are delivered by skilled moderators who are experienced in facilitating conversations that generate meaningful and actionable insights for clients.
