Group discussions
Group discussions can be conducted either online or in person. In-person sessions allow researchers to observe non-verbal cues such as body language, tone of voice and group dynamics, which can add valuable context to participants’ responses. Online discussions, which may take place via video platforms or text-based forums, can make it easier to involve participants from a wider geographic area and can sometimes encourage more open responses.
The group format allows participants to react to and build upon each other’s ideas, often generating richer insights than individual interviews alone. Researchers can explore how opinions develop within a social context and identify areas of consensus or disagreement.
Group discussions, either called, deliberate groups or focus groups are part of the qualitative research approaches offered by DJS Research.
